How This YouTube Monetization & Revenue Calculator Works

1. Purpose of the Calculator

The CalcRoyal YouTube Monetization & Revenue Estimator is designed to help creators evaluate:

  •  Whether a channel meets YouTube Partner Program (YPP) monetization requirements
  •  Estimated monthly advertising revenue based on Long-form videos and YouTube Shorts

This calculator uses real channel data retrieved via the YouTube Data API v3 and applies policy-accurate logic instead of generic averages.

2. Monetization Eligibility Criteria (Policy-Based)

This calculator strictly follows official YouTube Partner Program rules.

Required Conditions

A channel must have:

  •  At least 1,000 subscribers, and
  •  Meet one of the following:

         1. 4,000 valid watch hours from long-form videos in the past 12 months

         2. 10,000,000 Shorts views within the last 90 days

⚠️ Important
Shorts videos (≤60 seconds) do not count toward the 4,000 watch hours requirement.
They are evaluated only under the Shorts-specific view threshold.

3. Long-Form Watch Time Calculation (Mathematical Logic)

Only videos longer than 60 seconds are included.

Formula Used

Total Watch Hours =
Σ (Video Duration in Seconds × View Count) ÷ 3,600

Applied Filters

  •  Video duration > 60 seconds
  •  Uploaded within the last 365 days
  •  Shorts videos are automatically excluded

This mirrors YouTube’s internal watch-time aggregation logic and reflects actual content consumption, not averages.

4. Shorts Views Calculation (90-Day Window)

Shorts eligibility is calculated as:

Total Shorts Views (90 Days) =
Σ Views of Shorts videos (≤60s) published in the last 90 days

If this value reaches 10,000,000 views, the channel meets the Shorts-based monetization requirement.

5. Channel Format Analysis (Shorts vs Long-Form)

To improve revenue accuracy, the calculator analyzes content structure:

Shorts Ratio = Number of Shorts ÷ Total Videos

Classification:

  •  Shorts-dominant: Shorts ratio > 60%
  •  Long-form-dominant: Shorts ratio < 30%
  •  Mixed format: Between 30% and 60%

This ratio directly affects how monthly views are allocated between Shorts and long-form revenue models.

6. Advertising Revenue Estimation Model

Core Concepts

  •  CPM (Cost Per Mille): Revenue per 1,000 ad impressions (Long-form)
  •  RPM (Revenue Per Mille): Revenue per 1,000 views (Shorts pool)

Conservative Regional Benchmarks (USD)

RegionLong-form CPMShorts RPM
United States4.500.08
South Korea1.800.05
Japan2.200.06
United Kingdom3.500.07
Germany2.800.06
India0.600.02

These values are based on public creator reports, advertising market averages, and industry analysis, adjusted conservatively to avoid overestimation.

7. Content Niche Multipliers

Ad revenue varies significantly by content category.
The calculator applies category-based multipliers:

NicheMultiplier
Finance×1.8
Technology×1.3
Education×1.2
General×1.0
Gaming×1.0
Music×0.8

8. Final Revenue Calculation

Long-Form Revenue

(Long-form Views ÷ 1,000) × (CPM × Niche Multiplier)

Shorts Revenue

(Shorts Views ÷ 1,000) × (RPM × Niche Multiplier)

Total Estimated Monthly Revenue

Long-form Revenue + Shorts Revenue

Monthly views are automatically distributed between Shorts and Long-form based on the channel’s actual content ratio.

9. Data Sources & Technical Foundation

  •  YouTube Data API v3 : channels.list, playlistItems.list, videos.list
  •  ISO 8601 video duration standards
  •  Official YouTube Partner Program documentation
  •  Public creator earnings disclosures and advertising market data

10. Limitations & Important Notes

  •  Actual earnings may vary due to audience location, ad demand, viewer retention, ad blockers, revenue sharing rules, and policy changes
  • Shorts revenue is subject to YouTube’s shared Shorts ad pool, which can fluctuate significantly
  •  All results are estimates for informational purposes only and do not guarantee future income

Summary

This calculator is designed to provide policy-accurate eligibility checks and realistic revenue estimates, helping creators understand where their channel stands and how different factors influence monetization outcomes.
